Old Stool gets a Modern Makeover

Last Saturday I purchase this old stool from a garage sale.  It was the lady's grandmothers, and as you can see from the pictures, very old.

I may or may not have mentioned on this blog, that I LOVE to mix new and old pieces.  So the first thing that came to mind when looking at this stool, was to add a fun modern fabric.  There were many choices but I kept going back to this blue Ikat print. Here are some simple instructions on revamping this old stool:
Tools:
1.1 yard of fabric ( even though there is enough fabric let over to make a pillow..hmm;)
2. 1 yard of trim
3. Foam or stuffing
4. Staple gun
5. Scissors
6. Glue Gun
7. Hammer/screw driver (to get the old nails out)

1. Use the hammer/screw driver to take out the old nails.
2. Fold the edge of the fabric on one side of the stool and make sure its straight.
 3. Staple the fabric using with the staple gun
3.  Once you have one side stapled, add the stuff/foam to see how high you want the cushion to be
4. Holding the fabric tight, fold the edge and staple the other long side
4. Before you secure the last 2 sides, rearrange the stuff/foam to make sure its even and the sides of the stool are full.
5.  Now staple one smaller side of the stool including the corners
-For the corners, straighten the edge out so it looks like a upside down taco and then fold over to one side.  Staple it
6. Repeat on the other side.
7. After you finish, add more staples to make sure its secure
8. Lastly, glue the trim using the hot glue gun.

There were SO many layers on this stool.  You can see the three layers above, but there were at least 3 more layers after that.  (I wasn't joking about the age;)
I love how this stool came out! So comfortable and chic.

The trim did a great job covering the staples.  In the picture above you can see how I folded the ends of the fabric to give it a clean edge.

It was very hard not to keep this piece!

Old Farmhouse Table

I have been eyeing this old farm table for a month now and finally bought it today.  Its a solid wood table that would be cute in a sunroom, as a kitchen island or in the living room filled with some great finds!

Look at those legs ;)

I like the color of the wood, but feel like painting and/or staining the table would make the table stand out.  The top has a light piece of wood in the middle of two medium color planks while the legs on the other hand I am not a HUGE fan of.  So, I am thinking of trying milk paint out. Green (especially an olive/ dark green) has been everywhere and is even chosen as one of the interior colors of 2015.  Also, what says farm like a grassy green color?

I purchased some Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint in Boxwood.  Below are some examples of the color:

Can't wait to show you the outcome! Fingers crossed.  ;)

Little Yellow Shelf + Chalk Paint

A while back I bought this shelf from a garage sale.  I loved the cut out details, but it definitely needed some TLC.  It looked like whoever owned it before had some candles on the bottom shelf, and the heat bubbled up the middle shelf's paint.

Below was the inspiration for the color of the shelf!  Ever since I pinned this image on pinterest, I wanted to paint SOMETHING yellow! (Also yellow is my favorite color ;) I also thought it would be a great time to test out homemade chalk paint!  I used this recipe:

Chalk Paint Recipe:
One sample size of paint (7.5 fl oz.)
1/3 cups of Plaster of Paris (the more plaster you use, the more chalky it will be)
Add some water if too thick

Materials:
*An old jar or cup to mix the paint in
*Small paint brush
*Fine sandpaper
*Old sheet/drop cloth

Yellow Cabinet

The color is Behr's Sun Shower which was the perfect yellow. Make sure to stir VERY WELL so there are no lumps.  Also, I lightly sanded the shelf before I painted it.  I love the way the shelf turned out! All the cut outs made it difficult for sure, but I like the look the chalk paint gave the shelf.

Hope you like how it turned out! It was a LOT less expensive than buying chalk paint.  If you have any questions about making the chalk paint or applying it let me know!

Headboard help!

Since you guys have such great advice & input on things,  I thought maybe you guys could help me out!  Recently I bought a headboard at an estate sale.  Its a great solid wood headboard.  I love the pattern, but I am not THAT in love with the wood.  The wood is a brown/black speckled (think 1970s) color.  I have been going back and forth if I should paint it.  My original thought is yes, since I have been on the look out for a wooden headboard to paint.  Below is my inspiration!  I have had these pictures forever, so I am not sure where I got them.

Below is the headboard I bought.  I am in the process of looking for some table legs to extend the height (Right now its too short!).  Also the color I was thinking of painting it.  It's a soft gray, which totally would brighten it up.  The color is also neutral enough, that if I decide to change my mind about the room's decor, it would still look good.

Cute Nightstand needs some help!

My parents bought up this nightstand when I mentioned I was looking for one.  I love the shape and that its wide but not too wide.  My camera battery was dead so these pictures were taken on my Iphone, haese the not great quality.  The top of the night stand is all stripped/needs work and I am thinking of getting new knobs.  The only thing is I need help deciding what I should do to this dresser!
Some ideas are listed below.

1. The picture above is of a dresser that has been stripped which I love because it brings out the natural & rustic charm. Judging from the top of my nightstand, I think it would come out pretty.

2. The dresser above was stripped then the drawers were stained a dark walnut color while the rest of the dresser was painted.  This would also be another rustic option.  I could paint the top, sides, & legs of the night stand then stain the drawers.

3. The last idea is to sand the nightstand, paint it either an off white/flat white (or really any color!), then use an antique glaze to give it some age.

What do you think?  Also do you have any other ideas?  I would love to hear them!
