Little Yellow Shelf + Chalk Paint

A while back I bought this shelf from a garage sale.  I loved the cut out details, but it definitely needed some TLC.  It looked like whoever owned it before had some candles on the bottom shelf, and the heat bubbled up the middle shelf's paint.

Below was the inspiration for the color of the shelf!  Ever since I pinned this image on pinterest, I wanted to paint SOMETHING yellow! (Also yellow is my favorite color ;) I also thought it would be a great time to test out homemade chalk paint!  I used this recipe:

Chalk Paint Recipe:
One sample size of paint (7.5 fl oz.)
1/3 cups of Plaster of Paris (the more plaster you use, the more chalky it will be)
Add some water if too thick

Materials:
*An old jar or cup to mix the paint in
*Small paint brush
*Fine sandpaper
*Old sheet/drop cloth

Yellow Cabinet

The color is Behr's Sun Shower which was the perfect yellow. Make sure to stir VERY WELL so there are no lumps.  Also, I lightly sanded the shelf before I painted it.  I love the way the shelf turned out! All the cut outs made it difficult for sure, but I like the look the chalk paint gave the shelf.

Hope you like how it turned out! It was a LOT less expensive than buying chalk paint.  If you have any questions about making the chalk paint or applying it let me know!

xox,
Katie

  1. A simple exam of your cats skin will help to determine the cause of his condition. If you notice any redness or swelling, this could be a sign that a bacterial infection is present in the cat. Author is an expert of cat health product, go here for more interesting information.
